Repairs to Bixby museum completed

Repairs made to Bixby Historical Museum. Pictured are members: Bill Pittman, Cleone Gund, Billy Bevard, Walter Gund and Larry Wood.

Crews from Wagnon Construction Co., and Bernie Reif of Bixby Plumbing Co. have completed the structural repairs to Bixby Historical Museum caused by busted water pipes in the winter of 2010. All the pipes in the museum and the commode in the rest room were replaced.

No artifacts were damaged. The water/ice damage was confined to the commode in the rest room, the floor around the sink in the office/kitchen area, and the pipes under the museum.

A new heavy-duty storm door was installed at the front door to the museum. The new door replaced the previous storm-door which was twisted and broken beyond repair by the Oklahoma winds.

Most of the cost of the repairs were covered from the anonymous challenge donation and matching funds raised from three specially designated “plumbing pies” at this year’s chili supper and  pie auction. The rest of the money came from the museum’s operational account.

After a workday to clean up and put things back where they belong, the museum will be ready for visitors again. However, volunteers are needed to help set up a regular schedule of hours/days that the museum can be open and available to the public. Anyone who can donate time, even a few hours a month, to help keep the museum operational, please contact a member of the museum committee of executive board or call 688-5865.
