Fragments from the September 11th attacks still lurk in the memory of America. Part of the mangled rubble from the planes crashing into the twin towers sits in Bixby’s Washington Irving Park.

“It’s hard for us to empathize with the terror they went through as they were jumping out of buildings, killing themselves to escape flames,” said Dr. Tom Outhier.

Outhier took time out Saturday to remember the thousands of victims who lost their lives.

“When they look at this memorial and stand in front of it, perhaps they’ll think about better ways to solve problems in the world,” Outhier.

The metal was sent to Bixby shortly after the attacks, and a dedication took place about a year later.

Outhier said he visits the site about three times a year.
