  • What is a chamber?

    The Bixby Metro Chamber of Commerce is a not for profit organization consisting of business and community leaders who have joined together to promote the civic and commercial progress of our community.

    BMC was incorporated in 1947 but Chambers have been in existence for hundreds of years. Chambers leverage and enhance business partners’ talents and resources to create a climate of growth and success in the community. Through leadership opportunities, volunteer efforts and business-building programs focused on critical business, civic and social priorities, the Chamber improves the economic vitality and quality of life for its partners and community.

  • Who runs the Chamber?

    The policies of the BMC are the responsibility of its Board of Directors which is comprised of 15 business leaders representing all segments of the community. The Chamber employs a President/CEO who is responsible for general management of staff and coordination of all organizational activities designed to ensure and increase the Chamber’s partnership and financial well being.

  • What is the difference between the Chamber and the City?

    Certainly, Chambers of Commerce and City Governments must work together for the benefit of the community, especially in terms of business, economic development issues and legislative affairs. However, they are two separate entities.

    BMC provides a pathway to the community for business owners by growing relationships and togetherness which will positively affect revenue for Bixby and value for partners.

    We are a 501I 6 not for profit organization but not a charity organization, such as American Cancer Society. Chambers are prohibited from endorsing political candidates, although we do take a stand on issues that affect our businesses.

    The City is a municipal government and responsible for planning the future needs of the community, raising issues with other levels of government and providing a range of services such as public safety, quality of life, administrating a court system, roads, parks and sports facilities, community centers, water and sewer services to name a few. City Councils make local laws but operate within a legal framework set up by State and Territory Governments.

  • Why should I join the Chamber?

    The most popular reasons for chamber partnership include the business exposure you gain from involvement, the opportunity to brand and promote your business along with the information and educational benefits. Chamber partnership also provides your business and employees the opportunity of community involvement and the chance to support activities that encourage quality economic growth in Bixby.

  • What is the best way to get the most from my partnership with the Chamber?

    Our most satisfied partners are those who attend meetings and events, and who use the Chamber as a resource. The Chamber is the perfect place to make contacts with potential new customers for your business or profession as well as learn educational tools to begin implementing into your business.

    We understand as a busy small business owner sometimes you don’t have time to attend many events. Any employee from your business is able to attend on your behalf. Partners may also keep updated on Chamber programs and events through email communications distributed weekly.

    Remember the Chamber exists for busy business owners, those who are not able to monitor all the issues that affect your business daily. So whether you participate actively or not, your investment in the Chamber works for your business.

  • I would like to let my customers and vendors know that I am a member of the Bixby Metro Chamber of Commerce; may I use the Chamber’s logo on my letterhead, business cards or website?

    BMC encourages you to market your partnership with the Chamber. A study by the Shapiro Group shows 63% of consumers are more likely to shop with a Chamber member business verses a non member business.

  • What does the Chamber do (beyond helping business) to improve the quality of life in Bixby?

    Chamber staff and volunteers have been active in the development and promotion of projects to benefit our community such as Habitat for Humanity, Partners in Education, Leadership Bixby and I Believe in Bixby. Most of our partners, volunteers and staff belong to a local civic organization that raises funds for the betterment of our community.

  • How do I become involved on a committee or the Chamber Board of Directors?

    The Chamber has three working committees that are open for any partner to become involved in. They include a Partner Relations Committee responsible for all benefits and programs, an Ambassadors Committee responsible for welcoming and hosting at any Chamber event and a Business Advocacy Committee that establishes a legislative agenda annually as well as advocating for Bixby at the local, state and federal levels.

    In September each year the Chamber will request nominations for open Board positions. Any partner is able to be nominated or nominate themselves for consideration. The Nominating Committee of the Board of Directors will make recommendations to the Board who will then vote on any new Directors.
