Exclusive peek inside new Reasor’s store in Bixby

Story by Russell Mills found on KRMG.com

TULSA, Okla. —

The Tulsa area’s newest, most modern grocery store will open its doors Wednesday in Bixby.

Reasor’s stores owner Jeff Reasor gave KRMG an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the new store a week before it opens near the intersection of S. Memorial and E. 111st St.

He noted the unique design elements of the store, which he says are geared to appeal to his largely female clientele.

“The ladies are going to pick up on the textures and the colors and the angles. Eighty percent of my customers are women, so we’re trying to really tailor the store for them.”

Among other amenities, the store features a place to sit and enjoy the fresh-cooked deli offerings, sushi, baked goods and other items available in the restaurant area of the store.

The market also features two “education centers,” basically cooking stations which will be manned by trained chefs seven days a week.

The chefs will teach quick, easy techniques to customers as a way to encourage them to broaden their horizons and do more home cooking and to help increase his sales.

“The general population..”

Bixby Police Department Renovation

Story by Zack Stoycoff found on TulsaWorld.com

BIXBY – The city’s police officers will have room to stretch their legs when the Police Department moves to a recently renovated floor of City Hall later this year.

The second-floor renovation of the building at 116 W. Needles Ave. gives the department about 50 percent more floor space, Police Chief Ike Shirley said.

Officers are sharing the first floor with city personnel, communications personnel, the city jail and a fire station, and they often sit two or more to an office, he said.

“This will be kind of a morale boost to our officers,” Shirley said. “It’s kind of difficult to do our jobs right now with the facilities we have. We’ve got very cramped quarters.”

Funded by part of a $10 million bond proposal from 2011, the renovation reinforced the two-story building’s walls to ensure structural integrity, particularly on the top floor.

It also expanded restrooms and included cosmetic updates for the second floor as well as the downstairs City Council Chamber and municipal courtroom.

City Council meetings have been held in an alternate room during the renovation.

“It was a pretty extensive…”

Rites held for ‘Mr. Bixby,’ Bill Pittman

Story By NATALIE O’NEAL World Staff Writer found on TulsaWorld.com

BIXBY – When Bill Pittman stuck his head in your office, you could practically hear the gears turning in his head with a newly thought-up plan or idea. He was a “soft-spoken visionary,” said Tom Outhier, president of the Friends of Irving Foundation and Pittman’s friend of 40 years.

Pittman’s active involvement in his community earned him the moniker “Mr. Bixby.”

“There really wasn’t anything going on that he wasn’t a part of or didn’t start,” Outhier said.

After retiring from Telex Computer Products, Pittman started looking for a new pastime. About that time, the city of Bixby was thinking of selling neglected park land just north of the Arkansas River Bridge on Memorial Drive.

But Pittman “felt that it was very…”

OKC Thunder Makes Stop In Bixby For Blue-White Scrimmage

BIXBY, Oklahoma –

Oklahoma City Thunder fans lined the street at Memorial and the Creek Turnpike, Thursday, to show their support for the team.

The Thunder’s first stop is in Bixby for the Blue-White scrimmage.

The Thunder is in Green Country as a show of support for the Tulsa 66ers and all of the fans here in the northeast part of the state.

Lunchtime at Savastano’s, Thursday, brought the usual crowd.

The Chicago style eatery is just a free throw away from the SpiritBank Event Center, the place where Thunder fans will be focused Thursday night.

“Yeah, it’s going to be pretty exciting seeing Durant out there playing, it’s going to be a fun night out there,” said owner Frank Savastano.

Savastano said concerts and games at the event center always bring a crowd, but he expects Thursday night to be special.

“Well, we’re hoping for a good pre-game crowd coming in and hopefully some coming after, too,” he said.

New EMSA Hub Opens In Bixby

Story found on Newson6.com

BIXBY, Oklahoma –

EMSA cut the ribbon on its new facility in Bixby Monday.

It’s a deployment hub, where five ambulances are housed.

Paramedics report to work at the hub, get their ambulance assignment, and then fan out across the south side.

The goal is a faster response in the South Tulsa, Bixby and Jenks areas.

“If you look at the difference in the last ten years, there’s a significant population growth in this area, so hence, with that, of course, the higher 911 call volume,” said John Peterson, with Paramedics Plus.

There’s been a dedicated ambulance service in Bixby since April.

The new hub started stocking and maintaining ambulances for the area last month.
